Unity Minneapolis has made a commitment to help three Unity families in Puerto Rico move forward rebuilding their homes and lives after Hurricane Maria.
Carmen S., her daughter Paola and grandaughter Liani live in Luquillo and attend Unity Luz de Este. Felipe Rosa, his mother Maria and sister Minerva live in Vega Alta and attend Unity de Dorado. These two families suffered extensive damages to the structures of their homes when the roofs blew off. They are in the process of rebuilding in order to live in a safe, secure structure ASAP.
Gerardo Rodriguez lives in Guayama, where he is a member of Unity en Amor y Armonia. His residence was destroyed; he needs a new home. Gerardo is physically challenged and has unique circumstances that prohibit him from participating in work activities. He needs help with deposits for electricity and water. He lost many household items that need to be replaced, including his beloved music collection that was destroyed.
You can help by purchasing a paper brick or roof tile from volunteers in Fellowship Hall between services through Sunday, May 27. These represent the construction materials needed by our families in Puerto Rico. Your building material will be added to the “home” we have placed on the wall in Friendship Hall. Complete our home and share in the recovery of these Unity families. 100% of proceeds will be sent to families. They need safe homes for the 2018 Hurricane season (June-November).
Participation is open to all ages:
- Small heart flowers $1 (kids)
- Bricks $5, $10 or $25.
- Large roof tiles $25,
- Door and windows $100 increments
Donation method: Cash or check preferred. Credit cards accepted.
For tax purposes, this donation is considered a gift to the families in Puerto Rico. It will not appear on your annual giving statement.
