How to go from Trauma to Trust to Triumph

How to go from Trauma to Trust to Triumph

On January 29, from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. at Unity, I am presenting an interactive workshop called From Trauma to Trust to Triumph. I decided to do this because I believe Unity is about connecting, overcoming, healing, loving, and serving. This is the first time I have presented these ideas together.

We have all had challenging experiences. Some of these result in TRAUMA. In this workshop, we will be discussing the variety of challenges people can experience — serious illnesses, deaths of loved ones, endings of relationships, bullying, physical and emotional abuse, shame, abandonment, and betrayal. Books like Miller’s “Drama of the Gifted Child,” Whitfield’s “Healing the Child Within,” and Bradshaw’s “Healing the Shame that Binds You” provide insights into these losses and difficulties.

We will discuss the effects of trauma — which can include creating defenses such as anger, rage, grandiosity, being overly critical, food and drug addictions, eating disorders, denial, hyper-vigilance, excessive need to control, people-pleasing, and others.

The way to heal trauma is through TRUST — trust in God, trust in self, trust in others and trust in life. VanZant has a beautiful book called “Trust,” about how to learn to trust. We will explore what it means to trust — in both the human and spiritual dimensions. Forgiveness, letting go, vulnerability are all part of this process. Ideas from Tipping’s “Radical Forgiveness” and Rico’s “The Five Things We Cannot Change” will be discussed. Brown’s “The Gifts of Imperfection” provides additional insights.

From trust comes TRIUMPH — real spiritual connection, love, faith and compassion. Beckwith’s “LifeVisioning” presents different levels of spiritual consciousness. From victim, to manifestor, to channel for God’s love, to experiencing the oneness of everything. Out of this triumph can come service to others, a desire to share one’s gifts with the world, and bring more joy, peace, and connection to everyone. We CAN reinvent ourselves!

During the workshop, we will have confidential discussion and do some writing. But most importantly, I hope people come away from this workshop with a sense of incredible freedom and wholeness.
