The Presence and Power of Sound

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God and the Word was God.” John 1:1
In the end we become the Words we Speak!In Greek logos means not only ‘word’ but also ‘sound.’  Light, word, sound, vibration and thought are linked to the beginning of all knowing.  This suggests that vibration may be a vehicle for Creation in the universe.  We can easily use sound (our voice) in our own creation process.  We have our voice with us at all times, no preparation needed and have full control over it.  Exploring the inner world through vibration is an easily available and grounded way to connect with Spirit.

The intention of this evening is for you to explore Your Soul Vibration (your voice.)  We will concentrate on vocal toning and also explore other sound vibrations such as drums, flutes and other musical ‘toys.’  We will start with an overview of vocal toning, then experience toning leading into a meditation (may include flues and drums.)  Discussion will follow after meditation if time permits.

Music has always been an important part of my life.  In my youth I played piano, clarinet and sang.  However, it was never really intuitive.  Everyone thought I’d major in music in college but I didn’t want to teach or be a performer.  So I majored in math!  I had to reach the wise age of 50 before I decided there must be more to life.  I attended Therapeutic Sound & Music School here in Minneapolis led by Don Campbell (“The Mozart Effect”.)  That was a very spiritual experience that led me to play drums and Native American flutes as well as explore vocal toning.  I attended University of Wisconsin in music therapy for a short time and then trained in Musikgarten, a music program for children.  I taught Musikgarten classes and also led vocal toning groups at Unity in Eau Claire for a while.  Music and nature are my spiritual connection – it will always be an ongoing exploration.
