Saturday | February 6 | 3 PM CST (Prelude at 2:45 PM) | via Livestream
A memorial event “Celebrating the Life of Debbie Duncan” will be held on Saturday, February 6th at 3:00 PM (CST). A musical prelude will start minutes prior to the service and a similar postlude will follow. Ms. Duncan, known as “Minnesota’s First Lady of Song,” died on Friday, December 18, 2020 after a series of strokes. She was 69 years old.
Speakers and musicians during this service will represent a cross section of the many areas of the Twin Cities’ music community in which Debbie not only left an extremely large footprint, but also quietly influenced so many with her sincere support, public approval and genuine heart of mentorship. Speakers and musicians currently scheduled to appear are: Ginger Commodore, Lori Dokken, William E. Duncan III, The Duncan Family, Tia Finger, Doris Haynes, Bruce Henry, Rachel Holder, Peter Johnson, Mary Louise Knutson, Janet Kolb, Gwen Matthews, Kandii Matthews, Nathan Norman, Billy Peterson, Patty Peterson, Lowell Pickett, Gary Raynor, Robert Robinson, Erin Schwab, Mary T., Grace Tippy, Judi Vinar, Andrew Walesch, Adi Yeshaya and Rev. Pat Williamson with others yet to be announced.
Plans are already being discussed for tributes and concerts, memorializing her musical artistry and genius, in the near future. The Twin Cities’ music community looks forward to these opportunities to share their memories, (hopefully) gather together to sing, and also tell their best “Debbie” stories. There is no doubt that these future events will assist her friends, colleagues and fans in passing through the great amounts of grief and loss that they all now feel.
Please save the date and join us as we remember, honor and celebrate the life and legacy of this beloved musical treasure – Debbie Duncan – “Minnesota’s First Lady of Song.”
