Winter Solstice: New Beginning

Winter Solstice: New Beginning

Winter Solstice: New Beginning

With the end of another year rapidly approaching and another year starting just around the corner, perhaps it is a good time to stop for a moment and look at how we are doing. On a scale of 1 to 10, how would you rate your life – in totality, meaning to include everything. Everything such as every relationship, finances, our physical bodies, your spiritual life, your happiness, your challenges, your successes and those things that you don’t quite have handled yet.

I believe that we can’t do something different, until we know what we are doing. If we just go on doing what we have been doing and hope that things change, we will likely have what we’ve had all along, draped in hope that slowly becomes frustration or wondering why. If we rate our lives as a 5 or less out of 10, we are likely feeling the weight and burden of some significant struggles. If we are in the 6 to 8 range, a lot of things are working but we may be looking at each day as another day on the treadmill. Sometimes the days just slip by endlessly. If we are in the 9 to 10 range of life, we are looking forward to each day, succeeding in handling anything that comes up, refreshed, energized and content.

The Universe provides us with a symbolic time to stop and look at our lives. A time to look at how we are doing. A chance to illuminate what what’s not working so we can stop, if only for a moment, and choose – either to keep doing we have been doing or opt for any other course. A time to notice and choose something that can produce a 10-on-a-10-scale life. A time to get off of living on auto-pilot and move into a life of mindfulness.

This symbolic time is the Winter’s Solstice. On Friday, Dec. 21 at 7 PM. Unity Minneapolis will offer the 11th Annual Winter Solstice Event. This is an evening to erase the dusty scribblings and frustrations on your chalkboard from last year and set your intentions for the upcoming year. The evening will include a period of guided journaling where you will get the opportunity to illuminate all of the things that haven’t worked and let them all go outside in a glorious bonfire! With the release of what has not worked, you will have the opportunity to set your intentions for what you say is important in each of the areas and relationships in your life. This year will be a little different than past years as Reverend Pat Williamson will be co- facilitating the event and we will be providing more focus on our intentions. We are so excited!

I wish I could say that erasing our chalkboard is as simple as waving the magic wand of blissful happiness. But as you probably know, the results in our lives have been forged by our persistent thoughts and practices – all set in the cycle of auto-pilot. And it will take some work to scrape the embedded chalk of the board. The goal of this annual event is to assist you in illuminating those old thoughts and practices and to inspire new intentions for the new year.

Remember, you can’t do something different, until you know what you are doing now. Given that the
growing number of participants who attend this event, I think we are all up for something bigger! How about you? See you at Unity Minneapolis on the Winter Solstice!

See you Friday, December 21 at 7:00 p.m. in the Fillmore Room at Unity Minneapolis!
