Join us for an intimate evening of music presented by five-time Grammy nominee, Karrin Allyson and “Beloved Twin Cities’ singer and pianist” (StarTribune), Lori Dokken. These longtime friends combine forces on stage for the first time to collaborate on a collage of musical selections, from jazz standards to Broadway tunes to Karrin’s originals and more than likely a Joni Mitchell song or two.
These grounded, authentic women promise to take you away from it all and bring you back to earth feeling energized and filled with soul and sass. Truly… an evening not to be missed.Purchase Tickets Now
Karrin Allyson – from The Houston Press – “If there’s a choir in heaven, someday the exquisite vocalist Karrin Allyson will lead it. She’s such an otherworldly talent that the creator probably already has her on heavy rotation.”
Karrin lives in New York City, following a childhood in the Midwest, schooling in the Bay Area, a degree in classical piano performance and important stints in Minneapolis and Kansas City, where she began her recording career with Concord Jazz.
With fifteen albums and five Grammy nominations, it’s no surprise that music lovers and critics around the world have been singing Allyson’s name from the roof tops, marveling at the range of this extraordinary musician, who moves with such ease and authority from the Great American Songbook of Gershwin and Porter to the Great American Jazz Songbook of Duke and Thelonious and Miles and dizzy, jet-setting to Rio and Paris and swinging back home to pick up Bonnie Raitt and Joni Mitchell and Jimmy Webb. What unites this wide world of music – brings it together and makes sense of it all – is Karrin Allyson’s warmth and depth. She’s not just singing a lyric, she’s telling you her story. And then that becomes your story. You hear the music from the inside out.
Lori Dokken – from Skyway News – “Dokken is pure entertainer, the way entertainers are supposed to be… her act isn’t stale – this woman loves what she does. And what she does is something else… Dokken talk to her audience like she wants to know them better.”
In addition to being the Music Director at Unity Minneapolis for the past nine and a half years, Lori has performed at every major venue in the Twin Cities from The Dakota to The Guthrie to The Ordway. A sought-after accompanist, she is also a successful concert producer, educator, vocal coach, arranger, and vocalist. Lori has produced headline shows for cruise ships as well as local cabaret acts and has opened for legends like Eartha Kitt, Carole King, and Tony Bennett. She has sung backups for Kenny Loggins and shared the stage with Beatrice Arthur. Ms. Dokken has been very involved in the philanthropic community and over the years has raised well over a million dollars for several HIV/AIDS organizations as well as many other charitable organizations.
